The best carnival in the world.
The Venice Carnival
The Carnival in Venice was first recorded in 1268. The
subversive nature of the festival is reflected in the many
laws created over the centuries in Italy attempting to
restrict celebrations and often banning the wearing of
masks but masks have always been a central feature of
the Venetian carnival; traditionally people are allowed to
wear them and mask makers (mascareri) enjoy a special
position in society, with their own laws and their own
guild. Carnival starts on February 2nd and ends on Fat
Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. Carnival in
Venice is particularly suggestive thanks to the beautiful
and romantic city. You can see mask in the most famous squares, along the wonderful canals, over
the bridges, on gondolas and… everywhere.
Description of some masks.
Several steps are needed to achieve a beautiful mask to the Carnival of Venice.
First we built with clay to represent the face mask.
This is the casting plaster mask. The model is sculpted in clay.
One model then plaster mold above.
Several layers of plaster liquid will be poured on this model to obtain a mold very thick and strong.
Sizing. The mold is filled with layers of blotting paper coated with glue. That paper mache, made with pieces of paper and glue.
It will be placed on the mold when it dries slowly. Several layers will be needed to provide some strength to the mask.
Once hardens (this will take two days of drying) the mask is removed from its mold Fignolé then gently with very fine sandpaper.
After drying complete, we shall cut contours and eyes. Now you can coat the mask with special harshness on drying will further solidify.
This is the basic substance.
The most artistic finally arrived.
The mask is painted with several layers of white paint for the background color.
For the decoration itself, it uttilisera paint colors, sequins, beads, fabric or pieces of wallpaper in any genre.
